Ronin

If you’ve bought a new Ronin/Ronin-M/Ronin-MX or rented one, you might experience password issues – so you’re having problems connecting your mobile phone to the Ronin unit via Bluetooth. Or you might have even forgotten the password that you’ve set yourself.

This is relatively straightforward to overcome.

Below are the steps you’ll need…

To make things easier, we’ll just be using the word Ronin but it equally applies to the Ronin-M and Ronin-MX

How to download the Ronin Assistant
  • Depending on your computer type, download either the Windows or Apple version of the latest ‘Ronin Assistant’ software from the Ronin downloads page. Click on the Ronin/Ronin M  link below then you’ll see a sub-heading “Software & Drivers”  – download the Assistant software to your computer and install it.

‘Ronin Assistant Software’ downloads page: http://www.dji.com/product/ronin/info#downloads

‘Ronin-M Assistant Software’ downloads page: http://www.dji.com/product/ronin-m/info#downloads

‘Ronin-MX Assistant Software’ downloads page: http://www.dji.com/ronin-mx/info#downloads

If you’re using a Windows machine be sure to first download and install the ‘DJI Win Driver Installer’. It’s just a one-time install onto your computer. It simply helps Windows computers communicate with your Ronin.

How to reset the password on the Ronin
  • Open up the Ronin Assistant and if prompted for a username/password, just click ‘Cancel’ to get to the home screen of the software .

  • Connect your Ronin to your computer using a  USB cable. (One end of the cable plugs into your Ronin and the other end into your computer.) Turn the Ronin on.

If the Ronin and computer are communicating properly then the circular ‘lights’ at the bottom of the home screen should be illuminated (not dull) – one light will be on constant and the other occasionally flashing. You can see that in the screenshot below, the small circular lights are dull and NOT illuminated which means the software and Ronin are NOT communicating.

(For Apple computers the circular lights are usually on the bottom right)

  • Click the ‘Reset password’ button on the home screen. Once pressed you might not see any acknowledgement that you’ve pressed the button. Don’t worry. The password on the Ronin device itself has been reset, even though it doesn’t confirm it for you!

  • Now,  remove the USB cable from the Ronin and turn the Ronin off, then back on again. Also exit out of the Ronin Assistant app on your phone. (The app is available in the Apple or Google store on your phone)

  • Go back into the Ronin App on your phone and you’ll see the name of the Ronin is something like ‘Ronin (new)’.  You will be given the option to give your Ronin a special name.

  • After  this, you should be able to set a new password. (If at any point you are asked for a default password try DJI123, 123456 or dji123)

Alternative way to reset password on the Ronin

Page 32 of the Ronin Manual indicates that an alternative method of resetting the password is as follows…

Ronin RC password

” Reset the password of the Bluetooth connection: turn on the remote controller and the Ronin then quickly move both control sticks inwards towards the inner bottom corners within the first 8 seconds of powering on the Ronin”

        Thank you very much it was a bit helpful, but the new challenge am facing now is that after singing in my new device name and password it refuses to login, what could be the reason?????

        • Drone Gazette July 28th, 2016 at 2:12 am

          Sorry that you’re still having trouble! 🙁
          Perhaps you can consider the following:

          (1) Make sure that your new ‘device name’ is 9 letters or less. If you have problems, try 9 letters EXACTLY because a 9-letter device name finally worked for us;
          (2) The password must be a combination of numbers AND letters;
          (3) Completely uninstall and re-install the app then attempt the login process again;
          (4) Try another Android/iOS phone.

          If you still experience problems, please give us word-for-word the specific error message that you get when it fails or maybe post a video on youtube so we can see what’s happening. If you do eventually find a solution to your problem, make sure you post it here to help other readers !

      Il metodo alternativo con il radiocomando funziona alla perfezione. Ora posso settare il ronin m alla perfezione. Grazie veramente tanto. Carlo

    After I reset the password, connect via the app and try to enter a new device name and password, then I click Go and nothing happens regardless of what password I enter, it won’t accept a new password.
    Any thoughts?

    I am going to try the remote thing. I have lost the USB Lead. Which lead do i need to buy. I can’t find it.

      If you’re using an Android device, you’ll need a standard USB cable with an ‘A’ connector at one end and a ‘micro’ connector on the other. If using an Apple device you’ll need a lightning cable.
